HEAD ABOVE THE REST '08 - THE FINAL

This years glittering Grand Final of our very successful Head Above the Rest creative industries project took place on Thursday 6th November 2009.

Eight teams of Year 10 students from local secondary schools have been working hard since September to design and create their own Bond Showcase based on a James Bond film. Each team had individuals responsible for hair, theatrical make-up, costume design and modeling. Leading experts from Mode Training and Training Plus, provided technical support and practical sessions for the students.

The students received a tumultuous reception, with Parklands CLC hosting a red-carpet cocktails and canapés soirée for friends, family and school representatives.

All of the eight catwalk presentations were outstanding - the judges and audience were astounded by the standards of the costumes, the amazing hair designs, the confidence of the students and the dazzling theatrical make-up. The audience was also treated to a performance by our current Teen Idol winner, Danielle Mutch, as well as 2 dances from St.Julie's A level Performing Arts group.

The judges had a difficult time deliberating; the variety of all the performances was excellent. Eventually, after much discussion they came to a decision. The winners were…

  • Best Hair – Gateacre Community Comprehensive
  • Best Theatrical Make-up – Gateacre Community Comprehensive
  • Best Costume Design – St.Francis Xavier College
  • Best Dramatic Interpretation – St. Benedict’s Business and Enterprise College
  • Best Model – St. Benedict’s Business and Enterprise College
  • Overall Showcase winner – Gateacre Community Comprehensive

This project is a collaboration between The Sunflower Centre, Mode Training, Training Plus, Tony Lloyd, Sophie Hardisty Costumes and Liverpool City Learning Centres in the South.
