ACHIEVING ECONOMIC WELLBEING

Achieving Economic Wellbeing is much more than just understanding how money works. Educational achievement is the most effective route out of poverty, and so many of our programmes are designed to encourage engagement and increase employability.

NatWest Enterprise Day

Students from The Blue Coat School took part in this enterprise based initiative.
Supported by colleagues from NatWest Bank, the day centred around a series of activities which demonstrated the various aspects of running a business.

Students were tasked with creating a product they thought was both marketable and saleable. They then had to develop a business plan for their product complete with working designs and a sales and marketing plan.

Working in teams, the students then had to present their ideas in a ‘Dragons Den’ style pitch, with the best ideas receiving accreditation from the ’experts’.

The day was an outstanding success, with students tested across a variety of skill sets including, creativity, problem solving, team work and presentation skills.

Primary Enterprise Olympics

Year 5 students were treated to a similar ‘business’ day at New Heys School.

Guided by ‘real’ business people who are part of the schools’ extended business network, the students were taken through a whole host of business related activities.

The activities, which were designed to help younger children understand how a business works, centred on the design and development of a product, which could potentially be sold in school.

The young business brains excelled on the day, and similar projects were rolled out to both Shorefields and Broadgreen schools.

Airline Masterclass

All the glamour and glitz of the airline industry flew into Parklands CLC, when students from The Blue Coat School became Stelios for a day and developed their very own airline.

Representatives from Young Enterprise masterminded the project, presenting students with a virtual budget to plan a full corporate package for their airline, including the development of a brand identity and a full financial forecast plan.

The project mirrored ‘real’ business in many aspects, from working within tight budgets and timescales, to assessing the competition and working under pressure..

All the students who took part commented on how challenging the day had been and how much they had enjoyed ‘working under pressure’ although a few were unsure if they could cope with it every day!

International Development Project

Broadgreen International School have spearheaded this project designed to celebrate cultural differences and promote social cohesion in school.

The programme has now become an annual event spread over two full days, allowing students to learn about different cultures from around the world through a series of interactive workshops and ‘hands-on’ activities from performance based cultural exchanges, to cookery demos and more intimate ‘experience’ sharing sessions.
