POSITIVE CONTRIBUTION

Despite the frequent characterisation of young people as trouble-makers, huge numbers of our young people are actively making a positive difference to their local communities and beyond.

All young people have the ability to improve the lives of others, be this through offering support, inspiring others to achieve, or passing on their skills and knowledge.

Our initiatives within this field have been designed to allow our young people to support friends, family and the wider community through peer education opportunities, as well as developing a strong sense of self through wider community engagement and voluntary action.

Charity Night

On Friday 26th June, at a glamorous evening of entertainment, we marked the end of an era and waved goodbye to Teen Idol.

Contestants, winners and Teen Idol supporters from across the years gathered in the Parklands Theatre to enjoy a night of nostalgia and first class entertainment.

The night, which was designed as a celebration of everything “Teen Idol”, although tinged with sadness, was also a much-deserved showcase of some of the most talented participants we have been lucky enough to witness over the past five years. The fabulous singers were supported by the super dancers from St Julie’s High School and their choreographer Ms. Jo Roberts, and the show was compered by Sky Television presenter Steve Walls, who kept the whole evening moving at pace.

There was added purpose to the evening as all the proceeds from the event were donated to Claire House, and a cheque for £1600 was presented to them in September.

Cheers, tears and a much-deserved standing ovation greeted performers at the end of the show as secret plans were discussed to reveal the next era of talent spotting at the CLC.

Everybody Online

In our technology driven world, it is important that everyone understands and has access to ICT.
Alongside partners from Include, Mersey Broadband and BT, we teamed up with Everybody Online to deliver awareness raising initiatives for residents in Liverpool 8.

Everybody Online is a national community development initiative that promotes social inclusion through technology.

Our programme involved groups of Year 7 students becoming teachers for the day! Parents, Grandparents, carers and extended friends and family from the local community were invited to the Shorefields CLC for a hands-on technology session delivered by the clued up students.

The students worked closely with the residents to help them overcome any barriers they had to computers and the internet, and took them through simple workshops to help empower them to embrace technology in their everyday lives.

The days were a tremendous success, allowing students an opportunity not just to pass on their skills, but also to form closer bonds with the wider L8 community.
